Friday 7th- Sunday 9th October will see some of the worlds elite gymnasts descend on Szombathely, Hungary for the Szombathely World Cup.

This will be an individual apparatus World Cup with gymnasts competing for medals on individual events. Both MAG and WAG gymnasts will compete and the nominative roster varies from Olympic medalists such as Krisztian Berki of Hungary on the men’s side and Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland on the women’s side to those who didn’t quite make the cut but were in contention for the 2016 Olympics such as World Championships silver medalist, Bai Yawen of China.

A breakout star of 2016, Zsofia Kovacs of Hungary is also slated to compete, having had a great start to her senior career in 2016, taking the All-Around title at the Austrian Team Open, ahead of European AA Champion, Giulia Steingruber, going on to take a bronze medal on FX at the Doha World Challenge Cup, place 3rd AA in prelims at the 2016 European Championships in Bern, Switzerland and of course, represent Hungary at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. I really hope she can have a great performance in Szombathely, in front of a home crowd. She is a beautiful gymnast and has a bright future ahead with this whirlwind year being her very first year as a senior gymnast.

Also, 2012 Olympic Champion, Krisztian Berki is competing in front of a home crowd and is making a comeback having missed the 2016 Games due to injury. I also hope he can impress in front of his home crowd and that he is in full health and that he can shine on his trademark apparatus, the Pommel Horse.

Additionally ones to watch are Giulia Steingruber who will likely win VT and FX, and possibly medal on BB and Yana Horokhova of Ukraine who struggles slightly with nerves and these nerves may get in the way of her medalling however is a beautiful gymnast and should be watched on both BB and FX.

The event will take place in the Arena Savaria in Szombathely, Hungary.
