The 2016 Chinese National Championships were held from May 11th through to May 15th 2016 in Hefei, China and acted as an important precursor for the Chinese women’s team on their road to Rio.

The Chinese nominative list for Rio has been announced as Shang Chunsong, Fan Yilin, Mao Yi, Wang Yan and Liu Tingting with alternates as Tan Jiaxin, Luo Huan and Liu Jinru.

Fan Yilin

Notable names missing include 2014 World Uneven Bars Champion, Yao Jinnan who struggled with a shoulder injury for the entirety of 2015, 2014 World Balance Beam silver medalist, Bai Yawen and 2013 World Uneven Bars Champion, Huang Huidan. Yao did not make any finals and her scores from qualifications are uncertain. Bai Yawen performed underwhelmingly in qualifications, scoring a 13.900 on BB and 13.150 on FX and ultimately not making any finals. Huang Huidan was impressive as usual on the UB where she took the bronze medal with a huge 15.167, however evidently was not right for the team, perhaps given the strength of the Chinese bar lineup even without her in it.
